SUNSET'S GARDEN

  “…La mélancolie

Berce de doux chants

Mon cœur qui s’oublie

Aux soleils couchants…”

VERLAINE, Soleils couchants, 5-8

Mirroring the north facade of the castle, this garden receives the light of the setting sun. It is bordered by a hedge of ‘Spring Festival’ camellias with a fastigiate habit. A glacis terrace forms an arc. It is planted with plants with intense yellow flowers. Numerous rose bushes, deciduous azaleas and dwarf rhododendrons, alstroemeria and daylilies make up the palette of the main species. In the foreground, border boxwoods gradually replaced by ilex crenata draw arabesques on the lawn. Beyond the steps which lead to the terrace, a sandy path runs away into the horizon, crossing a circular square decorated with a granite basin.
